Technical editorial policy

Scan to BIM Studios publishes technical content to help AEC buyers and practitioners specify deliverables, compare proposals, and reduce ambiguity. Every article has a named accountable author, visible dates, a defined intent, and a correction path.

Who is accountable for the content?

Waqas Akram, founder and studio lead, is the current named author for the BIM encyclopedia. Additional technical reviewers will be named only when their identity, role, and relevant credentials can be published accurately.

How do we research a technical page?

1. Define one primary reader question and assign it to one canonical URL.
2. Review primary sources such as standards bodies, software documentation, government records, and first-party project procedures.
3. Separate measured geometry, project requirements, modelling assumptions, and professional judgement.
4. Add an original tool, matrix, worked clause, decision table, or QA method where it materially helps the reader.
5. Check headings, links, tables, terminology, accessibility, and structured data before publication.

How do we use AI and automation?

Software may assist with content inventories, link checks, readability analysis, structured-data generation, and early drafting. AI-assisted text is not published solely because a tool produced it. The named human author remains responsible for the page, removes unsupported claims, checks important facts, and decides whether the material is useful enough to publish.

Which sources do we prefer?

For technical claims, we prefer standards publishers, government agencies, original research papers, and official software documentation. Commercial competitor pages may be reviewed to understand buyer expectations, but they are not treated as proof of a technical fact. Historical project claims require internal project records or a clearly stated heritage attribution.

How do we handle dates and updates?

The published date records the first public release. The modified date changes only after a substantive revision, such as new evidence, corrected guidance, a new decision table, or a material change to the service. Changing punctuation or a date alone is not represented as a content refresh.

How do we handle commercial claims?

Prices are indicative until a written scope is agreed. Accuracy depends on scan quality, registration, visibility, element type, and the acceptance matrix. “ISO 19650-aligned” describes a project workflow and is not presented as certification. Client names, logos, testimonials, and project imagery are used only when publication rights are clear.

How can a reader request a correction?

Email info@scantobimstudios.com with the page URL, the disputed sentence, and a primary source where possible. Material corrections are reviewed and incorporated with an updated modification date.

Why do we not publish to a fixed word count?

A page should be as long as the decision requires. Word count is used to detect missing coverage, not as a ranking target. We do not create near-duplicate country, city, or keyword pages without real local evidence and a distinct reader need.
